Originally released for the Travel Retail market, this 12 year old expression from the Jura Distillery (located on the island which shares its name, funnily enough) was initially aged in ex-bourbon barrels before enjoying a finishing period in casks that were previously home to a 15 year old Pedro Ximénez sherry. To further enhance its character, it is aged in Oloroso Sherry casks, which provide depth and richness to the whisky. I received a parcel of my own the other week, only its contents were quite different in nature to the Diageo Special Releases!Matured in American White ex bourbon barrels for 12 years and finished in Oloroso sherry casks from Jerez, Spain to produce a honeyed sweetness that offer notes of warm spice, banana, soft citrus and a finish of freshly ground coffee and dark chocolate. I found it worth a visit because I spend a lot of time wishing I was in Scotland, and it satisfied that longing of mine for a few moments. g.
