About this deal

Grant are proud to announce the launch of the new Glenfarclas 30 year old single malt Scotch whisky. Glenfarclas also feel they share some credit for the modern day love of cask strength whisky, introducing their acclaimed 105 proof expressions back in 1968. Aromas of honey and dry apricot on the nose, followed by Kaffir lime and mango on the palate, complemented by subtle herbal notes and dried tobacco. There it combines with the finest malted barley to provide a mash which is then twice distilled in traditional, direct fired, copper pot stills – the largest in Speyside.

The whisky spent its entire maturation in these smaller casks, casks that lead to much faster wood influence on the whisky, the youngest of which was 25 years old. Malts such as Mortlach, Glen Elgin, Strathmill and Benrinnes are rarely found as distillery bottlings, however when individual casks are tracked down by independent bottlers such as our Own Selection Single Malt Whiskies the resultant whisky can be quite wonderful. With sherry, cognac, brandy, fruit, nuts, marzipan (and even icing), this is a wonderful, sumptuous Christmas cake in a glass! Its direct-fired stills produce a heavy single malt that is almost exclusively matured in Jerez sherry casks.

There, it is combined with the finest malted barley, twice distilled in traditional, direct fired, copper pot stills and only the lightest and best fractions of alcohol are collected, to be matured in the finest Sherry oak casks over many years. For me it is in no way too bitter, on the contrary I find it so fruity-sweet that the smell reminds me more of an old rum. This is one from a striking set of Glencairn crystal decanters consists of six whiskies from a single cask, hand selected by George Grant from the Glenfarclas warehouses. The nose suggests this is a huge, effusive whisky through aromas of flamed orange disc, peel oils, baking spices, triple sec, mango, dark chocolate, passion fruit, and walnut shells. This Glenfarclas is one of the oldest malts in the Glenfarclas range that is still regularly bottled.Times may have changed, but it’s what has stayed the same that makes Glenfarclas unique: the six generations of Grant family pride and the revered quality of their famous Single Malt Whisky. In 1865, Glenfarclas distillery, nestled in the heart of Speyside, was purchased by a cattle breeder by the name of John Grant.
